This book has been on my TBR for a while and once I started it, I was mad at myself for waiting so long!
It’s the story of Mimi, the youngest of four kids and a budding baker. Mimi isn’t the star dancer her oldest sister is, the soccer star her next sister is, or the theater star her brother is. She’s struggling to find what makes her special.
When the new bakery in town announces a baking contest, she sees her chance to show she’s great at something and meet the famous chef and cooking show star, Puffy Fay.
But this story is a retelling of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, so the baking and the contest are filled with magic and mischief that Mimi’s family and friends become muddled up in. Her father, a renowned food writer, gobbles up everything he sees and can’t come up with any better descriptions for the taste of the food than scrumptious. Her sisters’ love lives go off the rails.
It’s up to Mimi to put everyone right and win the contest, but how can she do that without her father’s culinary guidance to help her come up with the perfect recipe to win the contest?
I particularly liked the true-to-life dymamics of the sibling relationships and the introduction to Indian cuisine and culture in this story. There’s also a bonus at the end of the book: the baking recipes mentioned in the story.
Highly recommended.
