Welcome to 2021!
We are all anxious to put 2020 behind us and focus on a new year filled with promise and productivity. There are dreams of writing the next book, attending conferences, and having books signed in person!
However, I realize the promise of a great 2021 may take a while to arrive and instead of being discouraged, I have been inspired online challenges and games. The past few days I have seen many opportunities for Instagram challenges, writing games, and reading bingo!
With those in mind, I created Tic Tac Toe for Writers! I can’t play along with you, of course, so I am changing the rules a bit. On the board are nine activities to complete. For each activity completed, you may put an X or an O on the square. Just like the real tic tac toe game, you can win based on lines and a full X. Bonus if you complete all nine squares.
What are the prizes?
Query Letter Critique – a complete line, horizontal, vertical, or diagonal
10 Page Critique – a full X from corner to corner
50 Page Critique – a full board, all nine squares
You have two full months (January 5 – March 5, 2021) to complete the activities and email us or comment below. No fair using older reviews, pieces of writing, already clean closets, etc. Everything must be new. Prizes will be awarded to the first ten winners.
I hope you find this game fun and a nice break from the stress both inside and outside your writing bubble. Happy 2021!
Wow! Great prizes! Thanks for offering these generous critiques.
Rebecca
I very happy to. Come on writers, fill all nine squares!
Looks fun! Thanks!
What a fun challenge – ready, set, go!
Wow this sounds awesome!
I can’t wait to hear how you do!
Ooh I just did the mask prompt yesterday and wrote something kind of deep and amazing. You never know what’s going to make you dig into emotions!
Fantastic Lauri. I love when writing surprises you and takes you to places you never expected!
I keep staring at this “watch an old movie” box and I can’t decide if the 80s are old enough at this point:)
I hate to say this but I think the publishing world considers the 1980’s historical! In that case, it counts!
I covered the board! Thank you for the incentive to reach out to an author, order a friend’s book locally, and write to prompt which I might not have done otherwise.
Hooray!! Congratulations for covering the board. Honestly, I’m glad it took you out of your comfort zone a bit. That’s how we grow as writers, correct? I’m happy to say you won a critique! Feel free to email me at halli@halligomez.com when you are ready to claim it!
