WriteOnCon 2020 – An Online Kidlit Writers’ Conference

WriteOnCon 2020 is right around the corner, Friday, February 21st – Sunday the 23rd. This year, Halli and I will both be speaking at the conference, so we wanted to share info on the talks we’ll be giving as well as topics we’re excited about in the line-up.

Halli will speak about Neurodiversity on Sunday, February 23rd from 12-12:30 p.m. EST.

I’ll speak about Short-term and Long-term Writing and Career Goals on Saturday the 22nd from 2:30-3:00 p.m. and about Work-for-Hire: Getting Your Foot in the Publishing Door on Sunday the 23rd from 10-11 a.m.

If you can’t tune in right at those times, don’t worry. The recordings will be available until March 1st.

I’m excited to check out a bunch of presentations including but not limited to:

  • How to Not Be Miserable on Your Writing Journey,
  • Gaining the Submission Edge,
  • Author Voice & Character Voice,
  • Giving Yourself the Best Shot at a Publishing Deal,
  • Creative Approaches to Becoming a More Productive Writer,
  • Motivation & Stakes in MG,
  • How to Write Humor,
  • Finding the Heart of Your Story,
  • Plot Twists, and
  • When You’re on the LONG Road to Publication.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to attend pitch session with agents.

Some presentations are open to the public; others require admission but admission for WriteOnCon starts at a super-affordable $10. Full admission, including access to live events, is $15. Extended admission, including access to dozens of live presentations, panels, vlogs, blogs, and podcasts until March 22nd is $20.

That’s a whole lot of writing knowledge for a lot less than the cost of an in-person conference!

The WriteOnCon forums are free. Head over there to post your query letter or the first pages of your manuscript to have them critiqued by fellow conference attendees. Pay this help forward by critiquing 5 other entrees in any forum you post in.

There will be superheroes on the forums providing pro feedback within the Superhero district. Superheros are kidlit agents, freelance editors, and traditionally published authors.

I’m super-excited for this conference, so I hope to see you there!

New to WriteOnCon? You can find my prior post on this great online writing conference here. Some of the specifics have changed but the conference is still a great place to meet writing friends, get feedback on your words, and learn about new topics in kidlit writing.
